Epitome of Free Will

A bright afternoon while I was busy fishing out stuff from my cupboard, I received an envelope that stated “Madam you have received an award par excellence for the excellent service you have rendered.”

Stuck in an Island with no help whatsoever; nothing tangibly familiar! The lady in there was busy running helter-skelter trying to save her life from the Python on her pursuit.

How often have we had such dreams in which we have achieved the epitome of success or scenarios where in we have reached a dead end and there is no life ahead? I’m sure we would love to understand the implication of the execution of free will in our life. Hence I spent some amount of time pondering on the same. Let’s see the story unfold and learn a few things here and there.

The word “dream” comes from Middle English word dreme, which means “joy” and “music”, ironically we do have nightmares. Stats show that on an average a human being spends 6 years of his life dreaming. It has been proved that we don’t remember all our dreams. We just remember a few during a certain period of our sleep. A few of us do complain that we hardly dream, researches have proved that as individuals either we are not physically fit or we just dreamt about something when we were busy sleeping. It’s also said that dreams are a way we express our feelings that are otherwise prohibited or ridiculed in the society.

So many unknowns and plenty of hidden meaning is a reason enough for the human mind to ponder on the subject and analyse its hidden meaning. There are plenty of philosophers who spend a life time analysing dreams and there implication on human life. “Did you see a snake in a dream?” “Let’s visit a temple and perform some religious act.” These are the kinds of stuff or similar sentences that we as Indians have heard of during a life time. As surprising as it may seem we are inquisitive of the things that our own mind can express when not controlled by our own will!

Several researchers like Freud have worked on dream analysis and he claims dreams are the Royal Road to the unconscious and concluded ‘the content of dream is thus the fulfilment of wish; its motive a wish.’ During his study Freud did conclude that the human mind consists of three different parts conscious, unconscious and preconscious. He further divides our personality into the different parts selfish unconscious area that operates on the pleasure principal, the Ego a conscious area that operates on the reality principle and the Superego where a person’s concept of right and wrong exist. In his research he has analysed the effects of these factors and a few more on the way a human being would dream and its implications in human life.

There have often been situations where in a person becomes hysterical or tends to burrow oneself in a safe retreat. There has also been one of incidents of suicidal tendencies. Researchers have shown that there a certain things that a human being would never be able to forget but the conscious mind tends to protect it as a treasure and would never let go of the same. We as individuals tend to protect it ferociously and would never let go. Learned people have used hypnosis and dreams to get to the depths of our thoughts that would otherwise be guarded by us consciously. This approach has helped them save many a precious life and help the person live a normal life treasured so much by us as individuals.

Everything said and done dream seems to be the epitome of free will. It seems to be a part of a world where no rules apply and not a single living human could stop us from performing any deed. Its seems to be the only place where one would not be ridiculed for his actions would not be looked down on for something the rest of the world perceives as stupidity but seems to be an individuals brain child and makes him look like an Einstein in his own eye. I would be able to cross the “No Mans” land and end up in Pakistan without a passport, no cop to stop me! I would be able to land in Venus with no formal education or no hassles of financing myself for the required education or degree! I would still be able to see life outsides this world.

It’s a way a human being is able to express himself. I would be able to be creative, imagine a world I would love to live in. It is a heaven in itself. A world in itself, where in we are the only creators and destroyers people with Supreme power. So let’s just dive in and live life to the fullest!
